Bromelain enzyme
High-activity, food-grade bromelain extract for nutraceutical and pharmaceutical use.
A product-driven biotech company in Northeast India turning agricultural residue into clean-label nutraceuticals and functional beverages.
Recognised by MSME Hackathon 5.0 · NIDHI PRAYAS
We turn what the pineapple harvest leaves behind into wellness — and pay the field back.
Northeast India grows roughly 600,000 tonnes of pineapple a year, and most of what's left after the fruit is sold — the spiky skins, the crowns, the fibrous core — is burned, dumped, or left to rot. Meanwhile, over 85% of the bromelain enzyme India's own nutraceutical and pharmaceutical industries use is imported. We think that gap is the opportunity: turn regional waste into the ingredient the country is currently buying from abroad — a resource some estimate could support a regional bio-economy worth ₹1,200–2,500 Cr at even 20% utilization.
Why now: rising demand for natural, bio-based ingredients; India's own push for domestic bio-manufacturing and import substitution; and steadily improving logistics across Northeast India.
